Southwest is pleased to announce that after a lengthy search and interviews with strong candidates, Southwest High School has hired Robbie Brink as the new head coach of the girls’ volleyball program. Robbie is a four-year veteran of the coaching staff, having served as coach of the B squad for two years and the JV-B squad for two years, consistently guiding his teams to winning seasons. He has also coached club (JO) volleyball at the 14s through 18s levels for 6 years.
Interim Athletic Director Josh Zoucha invited us to participate with him in the interviews. We were impressed not only by Robbie’s passion for and knowledge of the game, but his deep commitment to the Southwest volleyball program. As a Southwest alum himself, as well as a teacher and track coach at Southwest, Robbie will bring some much-needed stability to the program and will be able to hit the ground running to plan for the summer, secure a coaching staff, and confirm the 2018 competition schedule.
Robbie maintains a positive presence on the sidelines and is committed to nurturing the development of student-athletes on and off the court. He wants to help his players improve their skills, build confidence in their abilities, commit to holding themselves to a high standard, build relationships with one another, develop and commit to a common goal, and understand the difference between being beaten vs. losing. Further, he hopes these proficiencies will transfer to their life off the court. He is excited about the opportunity to both coach the varsity team and guide the program as we move into the future.
